What do I need to register?
Please bring a valid identity card or passport with a registration certificate with you when you register.
For children, we require a valid identity card or passport with a registration certificate from the parent or legal guardian.
The library card can be used immediately after registration.
Can I also register online?
Online registration is possible under
My account.
Please select the
“New registration” button.
Once you have entered your personal details in the form, you will be automatically informed by e-mail about the next steps required.

From what age can I register my child?
You can have your child issued with a library card from any age.
The use of the StadtBibliothek is free of charge up to the age of 18.
When a child is born, Brühl residents also receive a voucher from the city to enable them to use the StadtBibliothek as a parent free of charge for one year.
How much does a library card cost?
The library card is free of charge up to the age of 18.
After that, the following fees apply:
Annual fee: € 15.00
Reduced annual fee: € 7.50*
Family card: 22,50 €
*Reduced fee possible with: Brühl-Pass, volunteer card, youth leader card (Juleica), school and university students and trainees up to the age of 27, participation (ODER: participants) in federal voluntary service or voluntary social year. A proof must be presented.
On presentation of a certificate employees of institutions, e.g. day care centers, schools, can receive a personalized institution card for official loans free of charge.
How can I extend my media?
You have various options for renewing your media:
1. Online. Log in under
“My account” and you will see a list of all borrowed media. Click on the box to the left of the medium and then on the “Renew media” button. Finally,
you must confirm the extension once again. Only then will the new loan period take effect!
2. By e-mail to bib@bruehl.de. Tell us which media you would like to renew.
3. By telephone via our answering machine. Call 02232 79 7500 and press 1 to tell us your name and date of birth, as well as the media you wish to renew.
How do I reserve a medium?
Log in here with your card number and password and search for the medium you would like to reserve. Click on the “Reserve” button in the detailed display of the medium. You will then be asked to confirm the reservation once again. Only then will the medium be reserved for you.
How much does a reservation cost?
For children and young people (up to the age of 18), reserving a borrowed medium is free of charge.
Adults pay €1.00 per reserved item.
Internet reservations of available media are subject to a charge.
Will I be notified when a reservation arrives?
When a reserved medium has arrived for you, you will receive a notification from us.
Please let us know whether this notification should be sent by e-mail or letter.
How do I register for the Onleihe?
You need a library card to use the Onleihe.
Once you have obtained one from the StadtBibliothek, log in as follows:
1. user number = barcode on your library card
2. password = usually your date of birth (DD.MM.YYYY), with respect to the dots in between

Your password is usually your date of birth.
Please note the following notation:
DD.MM.YYYY
and remember to include the dots in between.
Library card expired?
If your library card has expired, your annual fee is probably due.
You have two options for payment:
1. Pay your fee online
You will find the “Fees” tab under
“My account”.
Your annual fee is listed there for payment.
You may first have to click on the “Renew card” field for the fee to appear.
2. Pay your fee on site
You can pay in cash or by EC card at the StadtBibliothek.
Why is my account blocked?
There are two possibilities:
1.Your annual fee is due.
See question “Library card expired?”
2.You have entered your password incorrectly several times.
Please contact us. We will reactivate your account.
Lost your library card?
Please notify the StadtBibliothek immediately in case you lost your library card.
We will then block your account.
If the library card can no longer be found, we will issue you with a new library card.
Please have € 2.50 ready for this.
What new opportunities does the StadtBibliothek offer in the new Rathaus building?
At its new location at Steinweg 1 in Brühl, the StadtBibliothek offers a wide range of media spread over 4 floors.
On each floor there is a self-checkout machine for independent borrowing.
How can I use additional tools for research such as the Brockhaus encyclopedia?
First log in with your library card number and password.
You can then search for media using keywords in the
media search.
You will automatically be shown hits from the Brockhaus reference work.
If you click on this source, you will be redirected to the Brockhaus Encyclopedia page.
The Brockhaus children's and youth encyclopedia is also included.
